Press release - ePowerSwitch D4 Guard

Remote power switch with built-in web server for IP networks

Remote power switch with built-in web server for IP networks

Remote administration for networks and installations:
ePowerSwitch D4 Guard: Remote control with four-way watchdog
Four remotely controllable mains power switches in a single unit - now with active Guard feature, enhanced technology and other new functions.

CeBIT 2004

The ePowerSwitch series is a range of intelligent, remotely controllable mains switches with built-in Web server and Ethernet port that allow remote devices - such as servers or routers - to be switched on, off and rebooted through corporate networks or Internet connections with a simple mouse-click. Being Web browser-based, there is no need for special software.

With the new ePowerSwitch D4 Guard, up to four devices can now be controlled at the same time. The Guard function continually monitors the connected IP-based equipment for lifesigns, automatically rebooting any crashed devices. Responding much faster than any human administrator can, it therefore ensures maximum availability. A highly cost-effective administration and monitoring tool for networkable devices that works round the clock without the need for human interaction, ePowerSwitch D4 Guard from LEUNIG is ideal for remotely managing smaller server groups and routers, industrial process control systems, test labs, and telecommunications equipment.

More functions and enhanced reliability
The browser-based user interface has become even clearer and easier to operate. An auto restart function simplifies rebooting remotely sited routers. On power failure, ePowerSwitch D4 Guard memorizes the latest switching states of its power outlet and re-establishes them when mains power is restored. The order and time in which devices are restarted is user-definable. A built-in programming interface allows automation of process-oriented applications. User names and passwords - which are encrypted for transmission - protect the ePowerSwitch D4 Guard from unauthorized access. With filters, specific IP ranges can be included or denied. In addition, the administrator can define access rights for each user and each outlet.

Fast, trouble-free installation
The installation is fast and simple on any hardware and any operating system. Configuration is via the serial interface (cable supplied) with any terminal program, or through the network.

In October 2003, Siegburg-based LEUNIG presented its ePowerSwitch-1 Guard with built-in, active Guard function. This follows on from the development of the ePowerSwitch-M/S for eight to 40 separately switchable consumers.

(The recommended retail price for the ePowerSwitch D4 Guard is 379.00 EUR plus value-added tax.)

Background:
Servers, processor-controlled devices, even whole networks can crash from time to time. To restart crashed equipment usually requires someone to be on site to physically switch the appropriate mains switch off and on again. But having someone available on site all the time is expensive, especially outside normal working hours. The solution comes in the form of the ePowerSwitch products from LEUNIG.

The Guard function
A mains switch that can be operated manually through a LAN or WAN, combined with a local watchdog that continuously monitors vital IP-based components' lifesigns (servers, routers, etc.) and quickly restores their function after a crash: ePowerSwitch's Guard function fulfils the dearest wish of many a system administrator. Continually monitoring connected IP-based devices' lifesigns, this innovative new product automatically cuts and restores the power to any device that is no longer responding. ePowerSwitch Guard achieves faster response times than are possible even with round-the-clock human supervision, thereby maximizing availability.
