What happens when the printer is being used by another computer?
MagicBox starts printing as soon as a PC sends print data. Any subsequent print job from the other PC is spooled by the Windows Print Manager and started ten seconds after the current print job is finished.
Can I connect several MagicBoxes in series for printer sharing with more than two PCs?
In principle, you can cascade any number of boxes, but devices not connected to the printer should have their own power supply.
There are other printer switches that are supposedly "powerless", but do not work reliably without a power supply. How does this work with MagicBox?
MagicBox works on a technology patented by LEUNIG that is integrated into a special chip. Advanced circuitry within this chip helps to save energy and prevents print data corruption even under unfavourable conditions. In particular, the chip prevents problems when one of the connected PCs is switched off (the main cause of problems with the other mentioned products).
How reliable is MagicBox?
Beside 4Print2, MagicBox is undoubtedly the most reliable switch on the market. This was made possible thanks to our experience of over 20 years with all types of parallel interfaces and our active participation in the development of the new parallel IEEE1284 interface (Leunig was the only major company of its kind to participate). The experience gained in this field has been incorporated in an advanced chip whose main purpose is the prevention of faults and to ensure compatibility with all possible combinations of printers and computers.
Is MagicBox bidirectional?
In the conventional sense, yes, i.e. the control signals sent to and from the printer (out-of-paper, fault, etc.) are fed back to the PC. Today, the term "bidirectional" is generally used to describe the exchange of data between printer and PC. In this sense, MagicBox is not bidirectional, since this is associated with some basic problems.
